The photo is the identity evidence the external review flagged as the biggest gap. One source image (Pictures/Professional Portrait with Blue Gradient Background.png, 1254x1254), two sizes, WebP first with a JPEG fallback — continuous tone is the case where WebP/JPEG beat PNG: 640x640 42 KB JPG / 26 KB WebP About page (190 CSS px) 128x128 3 KB JPG / 2 KB WebP author card + home hero avatar It now appears in the About hero, the author card at the end of every post, the home hero (both languages), and JSON-LD Person.image — the node search engines read to associate the name with a face. About went from 1,024 characters to five sections: identity with photo, "By the numbers" (162 containers / 3 hosts / 71 essays / 0 hosting companies between me and the servers), the real tech stack in four columns, the Hoelee Enterprise block (website design and development is the main business, email hosting secondary), and a contact split between hiring and business. Also: the headshot's dark-blue background sits close to the page background, so the photo, hero avatar and card avatar get a faint brand ring plus shadow. Pictures/ keeps the converted JPG master next to the untouched PNG.
hoelee-blog
My personal technical blog — where I write about what I build and learn.
Built with Astro 5 + Markdown, deployed via self-hosted Gitea CI/CD to an nginx container on my unRaid server, served through Cloudflare tunnel + CDN. Live at blog.hoelee.com.
Purpose (read this first)
This blog exists so that when a recruiter, hiring manager, or freelance client Googles "Lee Teong Hoe", they land on a stream of concrete technical work that proves I can build things — plus a clear, trustworthy picture of who I am. It backs the job hunt and the freelance funnel (Upwork / Fiverr / Codeable).
- 67% of hiring managers check a candidate's online presence before deciding (Stack Overflow 2025).
- SEO is a long game — while posts rank, the blog doubles as a portfolio and inbound-lead magnet.
Every decision below optimizes for credibility + discoverability + speed of shipping, not monetization or vanity traffic.
Stack
- Framework: Astro 5 (static output, zero runtime JS by default)

Write a post
- Create
src/content/posts/<slug>.md(English) orsrc/content/posts/zh/<slug>.md(Chinese) with frontmatter (see content guide — nolang:field, it's derived from the folder). - Push to
main. - CI builds and deploys automatically.

Conventions
- Repo publishing order: push to git.hoelee.com (Gitea) first, then GitHub. (My standing convention.)
- Language: English posts flat in
posts/; Chinese posts inposts/zh/; no Malay. - Theme: defaults to dark mode (light is opt-in via the toggle).
- No overclaiming — especially Web3 (learning projects, not production DeFi).
- Name identity is consistent everywhere: "Lee Teong Hoe" / "Mr Hoelee" + same photo + same
sameAshandles across blog, LinkedIn, GitHub, git.hoelee.com.
